Alfred the Great  was the only Anglo-Saxon Monarch to defend the kingdom of England from the Vikings between 871 and 899.   He was the only king to receive the epithet of "The Great".   This was accorded for his heroic actions as defender.

The kit is from Men at Arms and is a 75mm figure.   It was clean with no flash or burs in the metal.   It went together with no problems and the fit of all the pieces was superb.

[The biggest area to paint, and also one of the biggest challenges on the figure was the cloak.] [The cloak was first painted with a dark brown Vallejo acrylic and was then washed with a black oil, with various highlights of brown, yellow and red blended in later.]

The biggest area to paint on the figure was the cloak, and this was also one of the biggest challenges.   I wanted this to look like animal hair and that is not easy to replicate.   It was first painted with a dark brown Vallejo acrylic and then was washed with a black oil.   Next, I simulated highlights in the animal fur with various shades of brown, yellow and reds.   It was then drybrushed with grays and off whites to pick up the highlights in the cloak even more.   Overall, I was happy with the way it came out.

[The cloth was painted in muted colors and then highlighted to create worn areas in the clothing.] [The shield was painted with browns and then highlighted with oils and the two arrows were added as accent pieces.]

The cloth was painted in muted colors and then highlighted to create worn areas in the clothing.   The chain mail was painted with Model Masters steel and then washed in oils.   The helmet was painted similarly.   The shield was painted with browns and then highlighted with oils and the two arrows were added as accent pieces.   These were made with thin styrene rod that had small brass feathers added and then painted.

[Alfred the Great was the only king to receive the epithet of THE GREAT.]

This is a good kit with no issues in construction, and a nice painting project.
