About the Porsche Carrera GT:  The Porsche Carrera GT caught the world's attention when first shown as a concept car at the 2000 Auto Show in Paris.   Promoted as Porsche's next generation sports car, the Porsche Carrera GT was officially on the market in 2003.   With Porsche's latest technology, the Carrera GT lines up well against some of the most highly engineered super sports cars offered by the worlds top makers, such as the Enzo Ferrari and the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren.   Having a powerful 5.7-liter V10 engine, carbon-fiber chassis, and push-rod suspension, all delivered with the classic Porsche style and elegance, the Carrera GT is still the ultimate high-end sports car.

The Kit:  This is another great kit by Tamiya.   All of the parts fit together perfectly.   The engine bay is very nice and it looks great when assembled.   I'm so amazed at the detail that this model has.   I have always felt this way about Tamiya models.

The Build:  I love the way that every time I build a Tamiya model, it fits together so well.   I enjoy not having to mess with models trying to get them to fit together properly.   The first thing I did was the engine and the chassis.   The engine alone was about 30 parts, and was molded in black and aluminum colored plastic.   I built the whole assembly first and then started painting it.

Tamiya's Semi-Gloss black spray paint was used for the base coat.   Then came the first color of Alclad, which was a stainless steel.   Thin coats worked the best.   After I let that dry for about 5 to 6 hours, I masked off some parts to paint Alclad Polished Aluminum.   After the Alclad had dried, I washed those areas with a thinned down black.   A dry brushing of silver highlighted the whole engine.   Next came the interior.   I panted most of the pieces separately.   The interior had three major colors, Polished Aluminum, Black, and Gray, and to me, these colors made the interior "pop".

Last but not least is the body.   It was washed with soft soap, and then dried thoroughly.   If it is not completely dry, then the paint will do " FUNNY " things.   I painted the body with Tamiya Gloss Black Lacquer, and after that had dried, I waxed it with model car wax.

Finishing Touches:  The last thing on the model was the decaling.   There weren't many decals but they are very noticeable on the model and stand out.   The emblems on the hubcaps were cool.   Also the decals on the headlights stood out on the model.   The base was also a nice touch to the model.   All together, I had a blast building this model.   In the future, I'm definitely going to do another cool and sleek sports car.
