Monthly Meeting – June 2019

Our May meeting was held on a beautiful, sunny summer evening.  Would anyone show up for a meeting in a stuffy room with mediocre lighting?  Yep, 24 members showed up for the latest news and info.  We had two visitors, Nate and Paul.  And we officially welcomed Russ Hjelmberg as an official member.

On the schedule for the meeting were two demos:

Ian Dow started us off with a scratch-building demo.  Ian is great at adding bits and bobs to highlight an existing model.  He took us through his thought process.  One fun part was to see the collections of miscellaneous parts he’s accumulated: leftover photo etch, scraps of materials, interesting trinkets, and other items to re-purpose.  He also showed off some cool tools for punching materials, or cutting or wrapping or coiling.  For our demo,  Ian built a (?) radio, or instrument that could compliment some sort of busy interior.

Jim Ashford followed up with an aircraft gap-filling demo.  Jim had a variety of gap putties, and discussed the pros and cons of each.  Other members added to the discussion with their techniques.  As Jim said, there is no right or wrong way, you have to find the one that works for you.

Eventually, we had to concede that the sun had finally gone down, and end the meeting.
