Monthly Meeting – August 2019

The August meeting took place on a beautiful summer evening, and we had a nice turnout.

Several of the members had just gotten back from a long weekend in Chattanooga TN for the 2019 IPMS National Convention.   We did really well as a club, and took home a nice batch of awards and medals, including an award for IPMS USA Best Website of the Year!  Check out Albert’s report on the Nats here.

One important piece of business was discussion of how we can continue to support Nankin Hobby.  Nankin graciously hosts our monthly Build Days, our Motor City Kids model-building sessions, and gives all of our members a discount.  On ‘prize-less’ months, the club will be raffling off a Nankin Gift Card to the members that show up for a meeting.  There’s no contest, and no obligation.  Just show up.  The members win, and Nankin wins.  We’ll tell you more about it as we finalize the process.

The special contest held for the August meeting was called, “Floats, Boats, and ‘Phibs”.  Any water-based craft was eligible.  Some were new, some were funny, and some were dusty and old.  Travis Blevins‘ Yamato took the prize this month.  (And he build it years ago as a Junior member!)  Hope you enjoy the pics.

The Winner of the “Boats, Floats, and ‘Phibs” contest was Travis Blevins’ IJN Yamato!  Travis originally built this model as a Junior club member, and took it to the 2013 Nats.  It was a great looking, large model on the table in 1/350 scale, by Tamiya/Flyhawk.

Nice job!
